Sri Lanka is awarded UNESCO Project under the participation Programme 2016/17. This award is for US $26000. Under this grant a symposium on gender, strengthening gender equity and equality of university community and the nation through workshops and seminars, study grants, and establishing a gender corner in the library are planned to be implemented. In order to start working on it there are 04 coordinators invited for working on it. The UNESCO appreciated this project stating that ‘Gender equality section finds that the project is highly relevant for UNESCO priority Gender equality in particular in its objectives related to capacity building in Member States to promote gender equality and to combat violence against women. The project is well elaborated in its parts dealing with the definition of the expected results and implementation’.
