Eastern University's Mini Olympic Feat: Closing Ceremony of 14th Sri Lanka University Games
The Eastern University, Sri Lanka, under the esteemed leadership of Professor V. Kanagasingam celebrated the successful closing ceremony of the 14th Sri Lanka University Games for the year 2023. This remarkable sports competition, is held among under the purview of the University Grants Commission 16 state universities across Sri Lanka. The grand finale of this sporting extravaganza took place at the Eastern University's main ground, marking the culmination of two month-long event that commenced on the 8th of July 2023.
The closing ceremony, which commenced at 2:30 pm, was graced by the presence of esteemed guest senior Prof. Sampath Amaratunge, Chairman of the Sri Lanka University Grants Commission. Distinguished Vice-Chancellors from other state universities, members of Eastern University Council, the District Inspector General of Police and Directors of Physical Education Departments from various state universities were among the esteemed guests who attended the event.
The event was elevated by captivating performances, including a welcoming dance performed by students from Swami Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies of the Eastern University, Sri Lanka, a mesmerizing yoga dance by Trincomalee campus students, and a captivating dance presentation by students from the University of Sri Jayewardenepura.
One of the highlights of the ceremony was the presentation of shields to the universities that achieved top positions in various sports categories. Eastern University took pride in emerging as the champion in the men's football competition this year. Notably, University of Sri Jayewardenepura secured the first position in both men's and women's categories, ultimately earning the title of overall sports event champion. University of Rajarata is set to host the 15th Sri Lanka State University Sports Tournament, reaffirming their commitment to promoting excellence in sports.
