Visit of His Excellency the High Commissioner of India to Eastern University, Sri Lanka

Eastern University, Sri Lanka, had the honour of hosting His Excellency Mr. Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India, Madam Jha, and the esteemed delegation from the Indian High  Commission on 30th October 2025 at the Nalliah Auditorium. 

The visit marked the Scholarship Awarding Ceremony – 2025 under Indian Government’s  Financial Assistance Scheme, through which 100 undergraduate students from the academic year  2025–2026 will each receive a monthly stipend of LKR 7,500, amounting to LKR 9 million annually. This generous initiative will significantly support the students’ academic journey and  well-being. 

The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. P. Peratheepan, Vice Chancellor, who  highlighted the longstanding collaboration between the Government of India and the University.  His Excellency Mr. Santosh Jha then delivered an inspiring address, reaffirming India’s  commitment to strengthening educational ties and fostering opportunities for Sri Lankan youth. 

The ceremony featured vibrant cultural performances by students of the Swami Vipulananda  Institute of Aesthetic Studies (SVIAS), adding colour and warmth to the occasion. The event  concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Mr. V. Alagaretnam, Coordinator, International Affairs  Division. 

The Eastern University, Sri Lanka, extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Government of India and  His Excellency the High Commissioner for their continued support in empowering students and  advancing higher education in the region.
