Memorandum of Agreement Signed to Empower Future Leaders in Preventing Violent Extremism

Eastern University, Sri Lanka and the Association of Mobilizing Community Resources (AMCOR) formalized a strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Agreement on 24th June, 2022. The signing ceremony, held in the Boardroom, EUSL coincided with the project orientation for the landmark initiative, Improving Students' Skills in Preventing Violent Extremism (PVE).

Prof. V. Kanagasingam, Vice-Chancellor of EUSL, and Mr. P. Muralitharan, Head of Mission for AMCOR, executed the agreement on behalf of the respective institutions. This collaborative project is designed to equip selected undergraduate students—tomorrow’s leaders in the public, private, and decision-making sectors—with the critical skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary to counter violent extremism. The program will initially engage students from the Faculties of Arts & Culture, Commerce & Management, and the Swami Vipulananda Institute of Aesthetic Studies (SVIAS).

The significant event was graced by the presence of university officials including Dr. K.E. Karunakaran (Deputy Vice-Chancellor), Dr. (Mrs.) F.B. Kennedy (Director, SVIAS), Prof. J. Kennedy (Dean, Faculty of Arts and Culture), Mr. A. Pahirathan (Registrar), and Dr. K. Arulanandem (Director, Center for Industry Community Linkage), Dr. T. Geretharan (Director, Student Support Services and Student Welfare. 

The ceremony also welcomed distinguished external partners, notably Mr. S. Karunakaran (District Secretary, Batticaloa), Mr. Raja Gunaratne (Director General of the NGOs Secretariat), alongside officials from AMCOR, the District Secretariat, and EUSL.

EUSL and Brandix Formalize Landmark Partnership to Empower Future Professionals

Eastern University, Sri Lanka, and Brandix Apparel Limited have solidified a strategic partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 24th February, 2023. The signing ceremony, held at the University's Boardroom, was officiated by Vice-Chancellor Prof. V. Kanagasingam for EUSL and Mr. Iswaran Senthil, Director East of Brandix Apparel Solutions.

This landmark agreement establishes a robust framework for collaboration aimed at enhancing student employability and fostering industry-academia linkages. Key initiatives include:

  • Providing structured internship and summer job opportunities for undergraduates.
  • Facilitating industry exposure visits to Brandix facilities.
  • Engaging Brandix professionals as mentors, workshop resource persons, and role models.
  • Ensuring Brandix participation in University Career Fairs.

The partnership also paves the way for future joint Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) projects and collaborative research activities, extending its impact beyond student placement.

The event was attended by senior representatives from both institutions, underscoring their shared commitment to the partnership's success. From EUSL, Dr. S. Jeyarajah (Dean, Faculty of Commerce & Management), Dr. V. Gunapalasingam (Dean, Faculty of Arts and Culture), Prof. S. Arasaretnam (Director, Career Guidance Unit), and Mr. A. Pahirathan (Registrar) were present. They were joined by the Brandix Apparel Solutions delegation, including Mr. Sha Hameed (Senior Manager, HR), Mr. Kulasegaram Jeyasankar (Assistant Manager, HR), and Mr. Kaleel Shameel (Assistant Manager, HR) from the Batticaloa plant.
