Establishment and Rationale

The Centre was established in accordance with UGC Circular No. 10/2021, a joint initiative with the Office of the President to increase capacity building and research output for long-term national unity. At EUSL, the CSR aligns with the University’s commitment to academic excellence and social responsibility, providing a framework to address post-war reconciliation issues through structured engagement.

Vision

To promote social reconciliation and harmony through social, cultural, and academic engagement, and through the dissemination of research outcomes of the university community, contributing to national unity and pluralism.

Mission

To enable the Eastern University community to excel in providing social reconciliation and harmony by way of engagement in social and cultural activities and research in order to promote national unity and reconciliation.

Specific Objectives

In line with the policy framework of the University Grants Commission, the Centre pursues the following objectives:

  • Promote multidisciplinary academic research on reconciliation and post-conflict dynamics.
  • Disseminate research findings in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.
  • Organize social and cultural programmes that foster mutual understanding and reduce prejudice.
  • Establish fair and transparent guidelines to ensure institutional harmony.
  • Create offline and online platforms for collaboration among universities and communities.
  • Introduce educational programmes in Leadership, Ethics, and Social Cohesion, including OBT and youth exchanges.

About us

The Eastern University, Sri Lanka, was established on the 01st of October 1986 by a University Order dated 26th September 1986 issued under Section 2 of the Universities Act No: 16 of 1978.
