Strategic Meeting Advances Industry Collaboration for Enhanced Student Career Readiness
A strategic university-wide meeting on Industry Collaboration and Student Career Development was convened on 31st July, 2025 under the chairmanship of the Vice-Chancellor Prof. P. Peratheepan. The session brought together Deans, Academic Career Guidance Advisors, and Industrial Placement Coordinators from all faculties including Agriculture, Arts & Culture, Commerce & Management, Health-Care Sciences, Science, Technology, Applied Science, Communication & Business Studies, and Siddha Medicine.
This meeting was a critical follow-up to initial discussions with leading industry partner Brandix, held on 27th June, 2025 at Boardroom, EUSL. Its objective was to systematically identify current and future industry requirements—including technical competencies, essential soft skills, and corporate training needs for faculty—to directly align academic programs with market demands and significantly elevate graduate career preparedness.
2024
Eastern University, Sri Lanka Hosts Executive Director of the U.S.-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission
In a significant step towards enhancing international academic cooperation, the Eastern University, Sri Lanka, hosted a meeting with Mr. Patrick McNamara, Executive Director of the United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission on 20th February, 2024 at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. The session, coordinated by the Career Guidance Unit, was chaired by the Vice-Chancellor and included the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, several Deans of Faculties, and the Director of the CGU.
The meeting provided a valuable platform to discuss potential collaborations and strengthen ties with the United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission. Key EUSL representatives in attendance included:

- Prof. T. Sathananthan, Dean of the Faculty of Health-Care Sciences
This engagement underscores EUSL's ongoing commitment to providing global opportunities for its students and faculty and to fostering strategic partnerships that advance its international standing. It was discussed about the opportunities to the Undergraduates / Graduates through the Fulbright Commission.
Discussion on Internship, and Employment Opportunities through Hayleys Fentons Limited
A virtual meeting was held on 13th February, 2024 between the Director / Career Guidance Unit and the Officials of Hayleys Fentons Limited with the participation of the following Academic Career Guidance Advisors of the Faculties:
- Mrs. V. Selvanayagam – Arts & Culture
- Eng. T. Vinothraj – Science
- Dr. Mrs V. Prasannath – Technology
It was discussed about the Internship, and Employment opportunities to the Undergraduates / Graduates through Hayleys Fentons Limited. The company is willing to conduct an awareness programme for students in March, 2024.

Eastern University Strengthens Commitment to Prevention of Violent Extremism
Eastern University, Sri Lanka has taken a significant step forward in its peacebuilding mission by initiating a strategic partnership with the Association of Mobilizing Community Resources (AMCOR). A meeting was convened on 8th June, 2022 at the Office of the Vice-Chancellor to discuss the collaborative project, "Improving Students' Skills in the Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE)."
The discussion focused on finalizing the project's framework, including its core objectives, expected outcomes, and the selection criteria for participants. This initiative underscores EUSL's dedication to equipping students with the knowledge and skills to become advocates for peace and social cohesion within their communities.
The meeting was attended by university officials of EUSL, including:

2020
EUSL Students Appointed as HackaDev Ambassadors for 2020
The Eastern University, Sri Lanka's success at the HackaDev National Youth Social Innovation Challenge 2019 reached a new height with the appointment of three students as HackaDev Ambassadors for 2020.
We congratulate:

- Ms. S.D. Akshara (Faculty of Agriculture)
- Ms. Bavithra Krishnamoorthy (Trincomalee Campus)
Selected from a national pool of candidates from state and private universities, corporate sectors, and other institutions, they are now counted among an elite cohort of 30 Ambassadors. In this prestigious role, they will receive dedicated support from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to build their capacities in community building and leadership. This appointment is a testament to their outstanding potential and the university's commitment to developing future leaders who can drive positive social change.
2019
EUSL Students Excel in National HackaDev Innovation Challenge 2019
The two teams representing Eastern University, Sri Lanka played a pivotal role in the 2019 HackaDev National Youth Social Innovation Challenge, Sri Lanka's premier platform for fostering youth social entrepreneurship.
The journey began at the Eastern Province idea pitching event, hosted at EUSL on 5th and 6th August, 2019. The university demonstrated a strong culture of innovation, with 23 of its own teams among the 62 total participants from the province. From this competitive field, four EUSL teams earned a place at the national 5-day Social Innovation Camp.
This success culminated with two EUSL teams advancing to the prestigious National Pre-Incubation Programme on December 2nd and 3rd. They were among the top 15 finalists nationwide selected to refine their early-stage ideas into sustainable business models with guidance from expert tech mentors. This achievement highlights EUSL's commitment to empowering students to become leaders in solving Sri Lanka's development challenges.

EUSL Teams Advance to National Social Innovation Camp After UNDP Programme
Following a university-wide programme organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), two teams from Eastern University, Sri Lanka (EUSL) earned qualification to the National Social Innovation Camp. The camp was held from 16th to 20th October, 2018 at Cinnamon Habarana Village.
Demonstrating a strong capacity for innovative solutions, both qualifying teams were represented by students from the Faculty of Science, highlighting the faculty's commitment to applying scientific expertise to societal challenges.
2017
EUSL Student Represents in Prestigious International Exchange Program in Japan
Miss Jeyaranjan Prasheenaa from the Faculty of Commerce and Management represented Eastern University of Sri Lanka (EUSL) in the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths (JENESYS). The programme was held from November 27th to December 5th, 2017. She was selected for this prestigious opportunity through a nomination by the EUSL Career Guidance Unit and joined a global initiative funded by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The JENESYS program is designed to promote cross-cultural understanding and build lasting people-to-people ties between Japan and nations across the Asia-Pacific region and beyond.
