Mahapola Scholarship Eligible List - 2024/2025 Batch

Instructions for Online Registration Published on the Website of the Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund.

Awarding of Mahapola Scholarships – Academic Year 2024/2025 Registration of Selected Scholarship Recipients

The Lalith Athulathmudali Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund is pleased to inform all students that the final selection list of Mahapola Scholarship recipients for the Academic Year 2024/2025 has been forwarded to the respective Universities.

Students whose names appear in the final selection list are requested to complete the online scholarship registration by following the instructions below.

Online Registration

The list of selected Mahapola Scholarship recipients and the online registration facility are available on the Mahapola website:

Students should log in to the online registration system using their National Identity Card (NIC) Number, complete the registration form accurately, and

submit it online on or before 17 August 2026.

Important Instructions for Selected Students

Print the Registration Application

After successfully submitting the online registration, students should download and print the completed Mahapola Scholarship Registration Application.

The printed application must be signed by the scholarship recipient and submitted along with Copy of bank pass book or any account confirmation obtained from the Bank to the respective University.

Bank Account Requirements

Scholarship payments will be credited only to individual savings accounts maintained with: Bank of Ceylon (BOC), or People’s Bank.

Students who do not have an account with either of these banks are required to open a new account before completing the registration.

Joint Bank Accounts

Joint bank accounts will not be accepted for Mahapola Scholarship payments.

Verification of Bank Details

Universities will verify the bank account details submitted by students against the information provided in the online registration application before forwarding them to the Mahapola Fund.

Changes to Bank Account

Students are strongly advised not to change the bank account details provided during registration.

Scholarship payments may be suspended if bank account details are changed without following the prescribed approval procedure of the Mahapola Fund.

It is mandatory for all selected students to provide a valid mobile phone number and email address when completing the online registration.

Students are responsible for ensuring that their mobile phone number and email address are accurate and remain active throughout the scholarship period, as all official communications, notifications, and correspondence from the Lalith Athulathmudali Mahapola Higher Education Scholarship Trust Fund will be sent using these contact details.

Appeals

Students who have not been selected for the Mahapola Scholarship and wish to submit an appeal should submit their appeal through their respective University. All appeals must be forwarded to the University Grants Commission (UGC) on or before 15 October 2026.

Deadline for Online Registration: 17 August 2026

Students are advised to complete the registration well before the closing date to avoid any delays in the processing of scholarship payments.

About the Intern;

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI), a CGIAR Research Center, is seeking applications from enthusiastic students who are looking to gain professional experience in the field of finance under IWMI's internship program. The internship will be based at IWMI's headquarters in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The procurement intern should maintain impartial, ethical, and customer-oriented relations with suppliers and exchange information with counterparts in other departments. The intern will be based at IWMI's headquarters in Sri Lanka.

Scope of internship

During the internship period, the intern will assist the team in the Finance Department of IWMI. The intern will gain a broad understanding of the accounting procedures and processes in an international organization. The selected candidate will understand the role that international donors play in supporting research, have the opportunity to work with an enterprise resource planning (ERP) and be able to interact with staff at IWMI's headquarters in Colombo, Sri Lanka and its regional offices. The intern will also be able to gain insight into working with people from different countries and cultures.

IWMI is an Executive Level (non-public sector) Training Organization approved by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka).

The intern will assist in the following areas:

  • Maintain the financial reports and invoicing databases regularly and generate reports as per the requirements of the team.
  • Assist with the process of accounting for donor receipts in the SAP enterprise resource planning (ERP) system.
  • Assist with the process of accounting for interest accrued on donor funds.
  • Assist with gathering supporting documents corresponding to transactions recorded in the SAP ERP system and ensure these documents are prepared as per the donor requirements stated in the project agreements.
  • Coordinate with the regional offices when these documents are referred to project financial audits.
  • Ensure that printed copies of the required supporting documents in relation to the financial reports are provided so that they can be dispatched to the donors and external auditors.
  • Assist with the organization's efforts to continuously improve systems and processes.
  • Prepare draft transaction listings to be shared with auditors and donors as required.
  • Prepare draft financial and accrual reports as required.
  • Prepare draft financial schedules for the project closing provision account as required.
  • Complete any ad hoc work assigned by the team members.

Qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills:

  • Registered or part-qualified students with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka)/Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA)/Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT)/Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA).
  • Undergraduates or fresh graduates with a bachelor's degree in Commerce/Business Administration/Finance/Accounting.
  • Excellent command of the English language (written and oral).
  • Ability to comprehend complex written material.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office software (specifically Excel and Word).
  • Experience in using accounting software would be an added advantage.
  • Strong self-motivation while being a team player.
  • Integrity is of utmost importance.

IWMI will provide a monthly stipend to the selected candidate during the internship period.

The duration of the initial internship contract will be 6 months, with the possibility of extension for another 6 months based on performance, requirements of IWMI and the availability of funds. This is a nationally recruited internship and only Sri Lankans are eligible to apply.

About the Intern

The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) is looking for applications from enthusiastic students who wish to participate in, and learn about procurement processes. The incumbent will work closely with IWMI's Procurement Office to deliver effective and timely procurement services for IWMI's headquarters.

The procurement intern should maintain impartial, ethical, and customer-oriented relations with suppliers and exchange information with counterparts in other departments. The intern will be based at IWMI's headquarters in Sri Lanka.

The intern will assist in the following areas:

  • Understand the process and criteria for obtaining quotations from diverse suppliers.
  • Assist IWMI Procurement Officers with obtaining quotations from both local and foreign suppliers for purchases of goods and services, to track orders, and follow-up with deliveries as necessary.
  • Assist in preparing quotation requests from suppliers/vendors, RFP/RFQ, and other documentation.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining relevant records for each procurement decision for all goods and services procured within IWMI.
  • Learn to track and evaluate vendor performance and improvements related to pricing, contractual terms, and/or scope of services.
  • Learn the life cycle of a purchase order and assist to prepare purchase orders for approval, dispatch approved purchase orders, and follow-up with the delivery of ordered commodities and services with vendors.
  • Assist with maintaining an updated supplier database and good relationships with vendors/suppliers.
  • Take part in supplier feedback meetings with IWMI Procurement Officers and record minutes where necessary.
  • Learn about the importance of meticulous record-keeping in procurement. Summarize quotations and technical evaluations in preparing procurement submissions to the IWMI Procurement Committee. Help maintain records of committee submissions, purchases, shipments, and other vital procurement statistics.
  • Study the structure and purpose of procurement management reports and assist IWMI Procurement Officers in the preparation and submission of reports.
  • Gain an understanding of the diverse functions within the procurement department and support the preparation of procurement system documentation, training materials, and end-user guidance during the ERP transition period.
  • Perform any other tasks or duties assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications, knowledge, experience and skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Business Management, Finance, or a related degree from a recognized and accredited university.
  • Certificate in Procurement and Supply Chain Management (desirable).
  • A good command of the English language (both written and spoken). Excellent report writing skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Candidates should be goal-oriented, able to maintain confidentiality, skilled planners and organizers, with good interpersonal and teamwork skills.

Future Leaders Programme

Invitation for Registration to Join the Future Leaders Programme – A National Level Capacity Building Initiative for Undergraduates

The Analytics Consultancy Centre of the University of Kelaniya initiated the Future Leaders Programme. The programme is supported through University College London research grant funding for capacity building and implemented in collaboration with DegreePlus, which will provide the digital platform and operational support for student engagement, guided activities, and inter-university networking.

The Future Leaders Programme is designed to empower undergraduate students through structured training and engagement in key areas, including leadership, communication, teamwork, research and academic skills, professional development, career readiness, and community-focused innovation. The programme aims to create a structured inter-university platform for student development, collaboration, knowledge exchange, and socially responsible leadership.
