Commencement of the Academic and Administrative Year – 2026
Eastern University, Sri Lanka ceremonially commenced the first working day of the Year 2026 with a dignified programme attended by religious dignitaries representing Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam, and Christianity, the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Deans of Faculties, Registrar, Librarian, Bursar, Heads of Departments, and members of the academic, administrative, academic support, and non-academic staff.
The event was blessed by the presence of the religious dignitaries of all four faiths, who invoked blessings upon the staff and the institution, symbolizing unity, harmony, and shared ethical values within the university community. The programme also included the hoisting of the National Flag by the Vice-Chancellor and the University Flag by the Registrar, marking the formal commencement of the New Year.
The proceedings began with the administration of the Government Oath, reaffirming the collective commitment of the university community to integrity, accountability, and dedicated public service. Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor extended New Year wishes to all staff members and emphasized the importance of accountability, academic quality, capacity building, and effective utilization of human resources.
The Vice-Chancellor also appreciated the commitment of staff members for their dedicated service during recent flood situations and for their collective efforts in successfully organizing the University Convocation. Key initiatives highlighted included internal staff transfers for capacity building, forthcoming recruitments, digitalization of administrative and academic processes, and ongoing infrastructure development projects.
Marking over 44 years of service to higher education, the event reaffirmed Eastern University’s commitment to excellence in teaching, research, innovation, inclusiveness, community engagement, and global standards, while setting a positive and purposeful tone for the year ahead.
