Matters Related to Student Unions
Students’ unions such as University Students’ union and Faculty Students’ Unions have been operated by a By-Law be cited as the Students’ Unions By _ Law No 14 of 2015, Eastern University, Sri Lanka. The Council of the University made this By-Law under section 135 of the University Act No 16 of 1978 as amended by Acts No 7 of 1985 and No26 of 1998 enforced with effect from 29th August 2015
Office Bearers of Students’ union is listed as following

- Vice President
- Secretary
- Editor
- Junior Treasurer
- Committee Members
The number of committee members to be selected is decided according to the number of registered students in the Faculty.
University Student’s Union
The Office Bearers of the University Students’ Union is elected from the representative of office bearers of each faculty students’ union. As such, the following officer bearers are elected;
- President
- Vice President
- Secretary
- Editor
- Junior Treasurer
Nomination for the office bearers of the Faculty Students’ Union is called soon after the new academic year commenced with new intake of the students
Nomination for University Students’ union will be called soon after the declaration of faculty students’ union
Subject Societies/Other Student Societies
If a group of students of the University of Eastern intends to form a student society, they should seek advice from the Senior Assistant Registrar/Student Welfare. The students who intend to form a student society should publicize their intention within the university. The students should call a general meeting and draft a constitution. The format of the constitution can be obtained from the Student Welfare Division of the University.
Only the students of the University of Eastern have the right of obtaining membership of any student society.
The society is not entitled to be affiliated with any other organization outside the university, without the prior written approval of the Director/Student Affairs.
Any society that is not registered should not function in the university.
Registration of society must take place within two months after the commencement of the academic year and the expected programme of the society must be produced within two weeks of registration.
